A Day in Life:
The Autonomous Vehicle Depot Operator is responsible for the hands-on preparation and readiness of autonomous vehicles supporting Uber's robotaxi program. This role performs essential daily tasks including charging, cleaning, inspections, and staging to ensure every vehicle is ready for safe, reliable autonomous service.
Reporting to the Autonomous Vehicle Depot Supervisor, the Depot Operator works as part of a 24/7 team in a state-of-the-art autonomous depot facility. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with cutting edge electric and autonomous vehicle technology in a fast paced, team-oriented environment. Your work directly impacts fleet uptime, rider experience, and the success of autonomous mobility operations.
What You'll Do:
- Charge autonomous vehicles using depot charging infrastructure, following schedules and protocols to ensure optimal battery readiness.
- Clean and detail vehicle interiors and exteriors to premium quality standards, ensuring a safe and welcoming rider experience.
- Conduct preservice inspections including visual checks, tire pressure, fluid levels, exterior condition, and cabin readiness.
- Stage vehicles in designated dispatch areas and update vehicle status in fleet management systems.
- Move vehicles safely and efficiently throughout the depot facility between charging, cleaning, inspection, and staging areas.
- Perform data offload tasks and connect vehicles to depot systems as required by operational procedures.
- Report vehicle damage, maintenance concerns, operational issues, and safety hazards to Depot Supervisors.
- Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Assist with other depot tasks and responsibilities as assigned by Depot Supervisors.
What We're Looking For:
- 1+ year of experience in fleet operations, automotive detailing, car wash operations, vehicle transportation, parking services, or similar hands-on vehicle handling roles preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer and smartphone skills, including the ability to use mobile apps and fleet management tools.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including bending, reaching, standing, walking, and repetitive motions for extended periods.
- Ability to work flexible shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required for 24/7 operations.
- Valid California driver's license.
What You'll Get:
- The hourly rate for this role is $25.00 per hour.
- Overtime Pay: Eligible (The company pays overtime in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Per company policy, approval is required prior to the use of overtime).
- Holiday Pay: Eligible (1.5 x regular pay rate for hours worked on a designated holiday, in addition to receiving 8 hours of holiday pay).
- Sick Pay: Granted Up to 48 hours.
- Paid Time Off / Vacation / Paid observed Holidays (Accruals start at .83 Days a Month, 4 Floating Holidays, 9 Paid Observed Holidays).
